Why the Qwerty keyboard makes no sense - Tucker
To understand why the Qwerty keyboard makes no sense we need to understand how it
came to be. The typewriter was invented by Christopher Latham Sholes. A politician who was
a democrat until he learned that republicans were doing better in the elections. He was
actually in the senate. He invented the typewriter and with it need a keyboard layout. He came
up with this abomination.
- 3 5 7 9 N O P Q R S T U V W X Y Z
2 4 6 8 . A B C D E F G H I J K L M
Just two rows in alphabetical order (look at it backwards) and no comma. Later, after his friends yelled at him for this sin upon god, he changed it to a four row layout.
2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 - ,
Q W E . T Y I U O P
Z S D F G H J K L M
A X & C V B N ? ; R
Definitely better, but one problem, were is the one. The number you start counting with. And this information is from wikipedia so you know it is true.
Later after more yelling from his friends he changed it one last time to the ugly but unchangeable, Qwerty
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 - =
Q W E R T Y U I O P [ ] \
A S D F G H J K L ; '
Z X C V B N M , . /
One thing you may be asking is. Ok this was an ugly journey, but why is it bad. Well lets put the 26 letters of the alphabet in order of usage
Notice how, E, R, I, O, and more frequent letters are not on the home row, but in stead less common letters like, F, J, D, and semicolon. How much do you use semicolons, almost none!
So next time it takes a long time to write your English essay, don’t blame it on writers block or other good excuses, blame it on Christopher Latham and this devilish piece of an invention.
Hehe, good to see that other people hate the QWERTY keyboard as well. I enjoyed reading your blog a lot, and agree that Cristopher Latham is dumb and so is his designs. I'm always making typos because of it 😔
ReplyDeleteGood job Tucker! I agree, I don't like QWERTY either, it just sounds weird
ReplyDeleteHi Tucker! I'm glad I have Christopher Latham to blame when it's taking me forever to write an essay now, because as you said, the most used letters in the English language aren't the most conveniently located on the keyboard. However, I think I'm used to this keyboard now, even though it makes absolutely no sense. I loved reading this post, great job!
ReplyDeleteGreat post Tucker! I have always wondered why the keys of our keyboards were arranged so randomly; it made no sense. Your post gives some good insight regarding the matter. Also, I guess after years of using this random keyboard, I have kind of gotten used to where the letters are.
