Gus Powell - The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

I just read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, by C.S. Lewis for the blog post. I have a lot of personal experience with this book, because it is on of my favorites that I have ever read. I first read the book in sixth grade, I liked it then, and I still like it now. So, in the story, there are four kids, Peter (the oldest), Susan (the oldest sister), Edmund (the youngest brother), and Lucy (the youngest). They all move to this old Professor's house during war time in World War II. The professor is a silly old man, who ties into other books in the series, and they initially like it. The children go exploring in the old house, because it is so big, and Lucy finds a wardrobe. First, it is filled with mothballs and coats, like you would usually expect to be in a wardrobe, but then, it goes deeper, and she notices snow under her feet. She has found the land of Narnia. She meets a faun named Tumnus, who is friendly and takes her to his cave. Then, it turns out, that Tumnus is a spy to find humans for a tyrannical White Witch. He feels bad and doesn't report Lucy, and he takes her back to the wardrobe. Now, what has been hours in Narnia has only been seconds in the real world and nobody believes that Narnia even exists. Then, Edmund finds the wardrobe too, and he doesn't tell anybody, and then the Witch finds him and is nice to him. He is given Turkish Delight and the Witch promises him he will have more if he brings her the rest of his siblings. So then, the rest of the siblings come, and Lucy tells them the truth, and Edmund keeps quiet about the Witch, because he is basically a spy. Then, some good beavers take them in and help take them to the good guys castle at Ciar Paravel. On the way, Edmund tries to betray them, but he fails and he sees the wrong in his ways. Also on the way, St. Nicholas comes and brings presents. Peter gets a sword, Susan gets a bow and arrow, Lucy gets a potion, and Edmund got nothing, because he was under the Witch's grasp at the time. Then, Aslan the great lion and creator of the world appears and strikes a deal with the Witch to where she can't use her magic, if Aslan dies. So, the Witch and her army of evil animals kill Aslan, but then, he comes back to life by using his magic. Then, he goes to the witches palace, and she used her magic to turn creatures into stone, so Aslan brings them back to life. Then he leads the good animals into battle with the Witch, and Edmund breaks her wand, causing her to get killed by Aslan.

  1. Hi Gus! I like how you summarized this novel very well. A well-done summary is key to a good review. You also related it back to your own life and your experiences which was very refreshing since this is such a classic novel. This plot seems very compelling and I might need to re-read this wonderful novel.
