Gus Powell - The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

I recently read a book called The Voyage of the Dawn Treader . It is part of my continuing blog series on the book series, The Chronical of Narnia. The book starts out with two of the previously mentioned children from the other books, Lucy and Edmund. They are visiting their spoiled and annoying cousin, Eustace, and they hate it there. The three then get sucked up into a painting which is Narnian. They find the new king Caspian from the previous book. They go on a voyage to find some lost explorers. They find some new islands, which each have something special about them. Eustace has some character growth, realizing the fault in his old ways, once he experiences hardship. I won't spoil the end of the story for you, its pretty surprising, so I'll just leave it for you to read if you like. Now, for my thought on the book. I still like it, but it isn't as good as the first few. It follows the trend of the decline as the books go on. Again, I like it, because it introduces a ...

Why the Qwerty keyboard makes no sense - Tucker

To understand why the Qwerty keyboard makes no sense we need to understand how it came to be. The typewriter was invented by Christopher Latham Sholes. A politician who was a democrat until he learned that republicans were doing better in the elections. He was actually in the senate. He invented the typewriter and with it need a keyboard layout. He came up with this abomination. - 3 5 7 9 N O P Q R S T U V W X Y Z 2 4 6 8 . A B C D E F G H I J K L M Just two rows in alphabetical order (look at it backwards) and no comma. Later, after his friends yelled at him for this sin upon god, he changed it to a four row layout. 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 - , Q W E . T Y I U O P Z S D F G H J K L M A X & C V B N ? ; R Definitely better, but one problem, were is the one. The number you start counting with. And this information is from wikipedia so you know it is true.  Later after more yelling from his friends he changed it one last time to the u...

Michael Wu - The Future is Scarychy

The Future is Scarychy (Review of The End and Other Beginnings: Stories from the Future )             You know, I used to not care much for science fiction, which is surprising since I love space, but I’ve always been more into the factual side of things. Now that I’m reading more sci-fi, I’m really starting to appreciate the genre for all that it has to offer, and it has A LOT to offer. Pretty much any story that takes place in the future can be called science fiction, and the best part about writing about the future is that nobody can call you out for being incorrect. Its only when your prediction is correct that people start paying attention, but not in a good way. Anyway, you’re allowed a lot of creative liberty with sci-fi. So how does an author choose one plotpoint to write about? It’s easy: they don’t.                    The End and Other Beginnings: Stories from the Future  is a collection of s...

Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn - Saif Shakir

Image
Summary This story starts off with Tintin walking around at a marketplace in Britain, but he immediately stops when he sees an old model ship which catches his eye. Tintin approaches the shopkeeper and purchases the item, but when he is about to leave, he is approached by two men who want to buy the ship off of Tintin. They offer him absurdly high prices, but Tintin declines, and goes back to his apartment so he can do research on it. When Tintin reaches his apartment, he places the ship on his counter,  but Snowy accidentally knocks it down and a scroll is released from the mast of the model ship. Tintin reads the poem on the scroll, and soon learns that this ship was made by Sir Francis Haddock, a wealthy pirate from the 17th Century. Sooner than later, when Tintin is learning about the history of this ship, he bumps into the last descendants of Sir Francis Haddock, and eventually Archibald, the descendant, tells him the story of how Sir Francis lost his treasure in the se...
