Michael Wu - Sequels, Prequels, and Spinoffs: A Story About Writing Fiction

Disclaimer: This is not a book review. I know that's what almost everybody else has posted so far, but I wanted to mix things up a little. So here's an original story written by me about the life of a book series. I also want to mention that t he idea for this story began when I was reading the book Ender's Shadow by Orson Scott Card,  which is a spinoff of the original Ender's Game . But since I already made a review of the Ender series, I came up with this instead. I hope you enjoy it! - Michael   Sequels, Prequels, and Spinoffs: A Story About Writing Fiction      Let’s say you’re the author of a bestselling novel. You’ve mastered the English language, learned the ways of the 26 letters, and channeled your creative talent into this work, your magnum opus. The public has absolutely loved your book. Everyone and their dog has read it. This is what your entire life as a creative writer has led up to. Maybe it was all worth it in the end. But alas, it is customary...

The Hobbit, by J.R.R Tolkien

The story begins with a hobbit living peacefully at Bag End. His name is Bilbo Baggins. For a basic summary, hobbits are basically humans, but half of their size, and they live in holes. Bilbo likes living at Bag End, which is near the popular city of Hobbiton. One day an old wizard, Gandalf, comes to Bilbo's house and asks him to go on an adventure with a group of dwarves. They want Bilbo to go with them and take back some treasure that was stolen from them by the dragon, Smaug. Gandalf tricks these troll to stay outside when the sun comes up, and they turn to stone. After, each of the party gets weapons from the trolls' camp. Gandalf and the dwarf leader, Thorin, get magical weapons.     Next, the party goes to the Elvish stronghold of ...

Hector Kircher - Hercule Poirot - The Mysterious Affair at styles

The Mysterious Affair at styles is a book about a man in a mansion which is owned by the Inglethorp family. Things are going normally, until Alfred Inglethorp's wife gets mysteriously murdered. The world-famous detective Hercule Poirot arrives. He finds out that The wife was murdered because of poisoning in her cocoa. Many theories emerge, including suicide and Mr. Inglethorp himself being the murderer, but it is later reavealed that the real culprit is (I left that part blank because I obviously can't tell you about it. By the way, I discovered this book from a game I played about Hercule Poirot.) My father suggested reading this book because I didn't know what to read for this blog post, and he knew that I played the Hercule Poirot game. So that is how I discovered it. Some aspects I like about the book is that it makes everyone look suspiscious so that you really don't know who the murderer is, until it is revealed. The book also has a great sense of progression, b...

Saif Shakir - Blade of Heaven

Image
Summary: Blade of Heaven, written by Yong-Su Hwang and illustrated by Kyung-Il Yang, was a manga about a boy named Soma who was blamed for stealing the sword of heaven. For a long time, heaven, hell, and the mortal world have been fighting in a war. These three worlds are all connected to each other, and if the demons of hell get control of heaven, then both heaven and the mortal world will face severe consequences. The main reason why these worlds are fighting against each other is because of three extremely powerful swords. Out of the three, the Blade of Heaven was the most important sword because of its ability to demolish the enemy whilst not damaging the sword. This sword was in possession of the King of Heaven, but it was stolen, and Soma was the only person to blame. Soma was depicted as a character who is extremely energetic, and quite confident. Physically, he appears to be somewhere in his teens, and is small but muscular. Throughout the story, he is portrayed as the...
